What is Hyundai SmartSense?

Hyundai SmartSense is the brand’s comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems that help you maintain control of your vehicle and avoid potential hazards. Power has recognized Hyundai as an industry leader in initial quality, ranking among the top three brands in the U.S. Initial Quality Study for two consecutive years.

Innovation and Future Developments

Hyundai continues to innovate and expand its SmartSense technology. The future of Hyundai SmartSense includes greater autonomy and enhanced features that will make driving even safer and more convenient. For example, the Ultrasonic Rear Occupant Alert goes beyond reminding drivers to check the rear seat; it uses ultrasonic sensors to detect movement and alerts the driver if a child or pet is left inside the vehicle.

Vehicle instrument cluster

It’s HOT outside, and that means summer is finally here! But with the arrival of summer comes the need to check on your car’s performance and ensure everything is running smoothly. The summer heat can be hard on many of your vehicle’s most important parts – like the A/C, battery, tires, and engine coolant.

That’s why bringing your Hyundai to a professional Service Department is important, like the one you’ll find at Chris Crain Hyundai in Conway, Arkansas! Bring your Hyundai to us before your neglected vehicle maintenance sneaks up on you this summer.

Let’s look at a few of your Hyundai’s most important parts and why you should bring it by Chris Crain Hyundai for expert service in Central Arkansas.

Air Conditioning Check

When your vehicle’s air conditioning goes out in the summer, it can quickly spell trouble for your comfort and safety. Not only is the A/C important for bringing the temperature down to a comfortable range inside your vehicle, but it also protects you from overheating when temperatures rise to dangerously high levels.

Your A/C runs on refrigerant; if it is low or empty due to a leak, your A/C won’t run properly. When you bring your Hyundai by Chris Crain Hyundai, we check your air conditioning and heating system to ensure everything runs smoothly. If you’re low on refrigerant, we charge your system so you can have cold-blowing air once again.

Car Battery Health

There’s nothing worse than attempting to start your car in high temperatures, and it won’t crank up! The heat can be very hard on your car’s battery, draining the power-generating chemistry that runs your vehicle. But it’s not just the temperature outside that can do long-term damage to your battery; long drives in very hot weather can quickly accelerate the possibility of overheating and battery failure!

A typical car battery can last anywhere from 3 to 5 years, but excessive heat accelerates that lifespan, causing your battery to die out quicker than normal. That’s why having a certified technician inspect your battery every time you bring it in for routine maintenance is important. The technician will be able to tell you if your battery is good to go or if it’s time to consider purchasing a new one.

Tires

Your tires are the only part of your vehicle that connects with the road, and asphalt absorbs heat incredibly well, especially in the summer months. When that heat reaches dangerous levels, it can negatively affect your tires. What does that mean? There is an increased chance of blowouts due to heat and high PSI in your tires. It’s estimated that every 10 degrees of heat raises your tire pressure by 1 PSI. And when that PSI gets too high – POP, your tires can burst.

High heat on your tires can also accelerate the wear on your tread, increasing the odds that you’ll need new tires before your manufacturer’s estimated tire lifespan. Bring your Hyundai to our Service Department and let our technicians evaluate your tires. If you need new tires right now, use our convenient online ordering system to find the correct ones to fit your vehicle.

Engine Coolant

If you have a gas-powered vehicle, then the radiator and coolant keep it from overheating under normal conditions. However, when it’s hot outside, that system can struggle to keep your car running at an optimal temperature. When temperatures are high, engine coolant can be affected by evaporation, leaks, and overheating.

Coolant is a mixture of antifreeze and water that works together to cool your engine down. Because it includes water, when the temperature reaches dangerous levels, the water in the coolant can evaporate, lowering its effectiveness. That can quickly lead to engine overheating. Any leaks in your radiator can also quickly drain your system of much-needed coolant and cause an overheating problem.

When bringing in your Hyundai for regular maintenance, it’s important to have your radiator and coolant levels checked. It can save you the trouble and cost of an overheated and busted radiator.

Bring Your Vehicle to Chris Crain Hyundai for Regular Maintenance

Don’t find yourself stranded this summer without air conditioning, an overheated engine, drained battery, or a busted radiator. Bring your car to our Service Department and let us check that everything is running properly.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 N

As spring turns to summer, it’s almost time for our favorite part of the year – new model season! Summer is when we start to see glimpses of all the new Hyundai models dropping later in the year. For 2024, we’re excited about the unveiling of Hyundai’s latest: the 2025 IONIQ 5 N.

The first IONIQ 5 dropped way back in 2021 as Hyundai’s first vehicle to be released under their IONIQ sub-brand. Since then, Hyundai has improved upon the original IONIQ concept with new trims and capabilities. Hyundai calls this version its “high-performance IONIQ,” and once we dive into the specs, it’s not hard to see why.

So, without further ado, let’s check out the compact crossover SUV built for performance: the IONIQ 5 N!

Check Out Chris Crain Hyundai in Conway, AR, for Your Next Hyundai SUV

IONIQ’s Iconic Design

The IONIQ 5 can best be described as a compact crossover SUV. It combines the versatility of a crossover SUV with the compact size of a smaller vehicle, so you get the best of both worlds. The IONIQ 5 N sits closer to the ground, giving it a sporty, fast visual appeal. If you look near the front, you will notice a lip spoiler on the lower bumper, which only enhances the car’s lower stance. The car features clean lines, minimalistic structures, and high-performance design elements throughout.

The wing-type rear spoiler supports optimal aerodynamic performance and enhances the vehicle’s sporty appearance. Because this is an EV, the front of the vehicle is free from the necessity of a radiator grille. It does, however, feature an additional air flap for extra cooling. The front features an N Mask graphic fascia with functional mesh for a splash of stylish appeal.

On the side of the vehicle, a Luminous Orange accent line adds a burst of color and is exclusive to the N model IONIQ 5’s.

Electric Powerhouse

Since this is the IONIQ 5 N’s first iteration as an EV, we can’t leave out the details on the vehicle’s electric capabilities. Powered by an 84 kWh, 697-volt lithium-ion battery, the IONIQ 5 N can travel up to 221 miles on a full charge, which translates to an MPGe combined rate of 72 miles.

If you have a Level 2 at-home Charging station, the IONIQ 5 N can go from 10% – 100% battery in a little over 7 hours. However, with 800V DC Fast Charging, the car’s battery can go from 10% – 80% in as little as 18 minutes! That means you’re back on the road and tearing up the streets in less time than it takes to order dinner at your favorite restaurant.

Groundbreaking Technology

The IONIQ 5 N builds upon the technology with the comfort and convenience of the technology inside. The Hyundai Digital Key 2 is the key to unlocking your doors and starting your vehicle without needing a physical key! You can even share your keys with your friends and family by sending them a Digital Key through a standard text message.

If you’ve ever wanted to start your car remotely to get it warmed up, you’ve got to check out Bluelink. It’s Hyundai’s exclusive app for remotely scheduling, starting/stopping charging, locking and unlocking doors, activating your climate control, and more. And it’s all conveniently available from a smartphone app. Bluelink just got even better. Bluelink+ has the same benefits as Bluelink but with no monthly fees.

We haven’t even gotten to the safety features, powered by Hyundai SmartSense. Here are just a few of the SmartSense safety features available on the IONIQ 5 N.

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist Enhancements
  • Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go
  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control & Curve Control
  • Driver Attention Warning
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Lane Following Assist
  • Blind-Spot View Monitor
  • Surround View Monitor
  • Safe Exit Assist

High Performance

Okay, so let’s talk about the high performance of the IONIQ 5 N. It starts with the powerful 641 horsepower max output, powered by the 478 kW electric motor. This combo allows the car to go from 0-60 mph in 3.25 seconds! This kind of speed and power is made possible by two unique features of the IONIQ 5 N: N Launch Control and N Grin Boost.

N Launch Control optimizes your start response time at the push of a button, allowing rapid acceleration with pre-torque. Three different road grip levels – low, medium, and high – activate based on road conditions to give you optimal performance.

N Grin Boost is the second key to the performance puzzle. It’s a crazy-fast acceleration booster that only requires a 10-second rest time between uses. Accelerate your IONIQ 5 N to 650 PS with N Grin Boost and smoke the competition on the racetrack! It can reach a top speed of 162 mph with N Grin Boost engaged.

If drifting is your thing, the IONIQ 5 N has you covered there, too. It has rally-inspired AWD cornering to help you conquer the toughest curves. N Torque Distribution customizes torque distribution to the front and rear wheels, while N Pedal gives you higher agility through aggressive weight transfer to the pedals. It also comes standard with an Electronic limited-slip rear differential (or e-LSD) to help you hit every corner like a pro. And with N Drift Optimizer, you get intelligent drift assistance that replicas clutch kick action in rear-wheel drive scenarios. It’s built for maximum fun!

Starting at $66,100, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is a performance beast packed into an economical and environmentally friendly EV body. There’s a reason it won a 2024 World Performance Car Award!

used Hyundai for sale

You’re sure to have lots of questions when you begin shopping for a car. Where should I buy my vehicle? What kind should I get? Should I buy new or pre-owned?

While buying a new car ensures that you’ll have that vehicle for many years, it also involves a much greater financial commitment. A used car, however, can often offer the same quality vehicle for a much lower price. You could buy your next used vehicle directly from a previous owner, but a much better option is to buy a used car directly from a dealership.

Here are five reasons to buy a used car from Crain Hyundai!

Certified Pre-Owned Programs

A Certified Pre-Owned car – or CPO – has been thoroughly inspected and repaired as needed by a professional mechanic at a dealership. In simplest terms, it’s a used car that a dealer or manufacturer backs as good.

Not every car has a CPO certification, but many vehicles at your local dealership undergo this special inspection. When you shop used at Crain Hyundai of North Little Rock, you can search for vehicles by Certified Used to find the cars that have undergone inspection and have the highest rating in our inventory.

We also provide CarFax reports on our used vehicles to show you all previous owners, any repairs made to the car, and other important information that owners need to know. You can also sort our used inventory by CarFax 1 Owner. Just look for the badges that say Show Me the CarFax!

Variety and Availability

When searching for a used vehicle, you want the best variety and availability at your fingertips. There’s no better place to find a large used inventory than at Crain Hyundai.

While some shoppers know exactly what car they want, down to the year, model, and available features, others may not have a clue. They need to browse to find the right car for them. This is another great advantage of buying a used car from a dealership. At Crain, hundreds of used vehicles are available from brands like Hyundai, Ford, Toyota, Subaru, and more!

Financing Options

Dealerships offer financing options for buyers who need assistance. Not everyone can afford the upfront cost of a vehicle, which is often the case when buying directly from a previous owner.

Crain Hyundai works with multiple lenders to offer competitive interest rates and flexible payment plans that work for you!

Purchase Protection

Your used purchase comes with protection plans to provide confidence in your journey. From dealership to manufacturer warranties, car purchasers have many protections available.

For Certified Used Vehicles, Hyundai offers its own set of protections. From a 173-point inspection to a 10-Year/100,000-Mile Certified Used Vehicles Powertrain Limited Warranty, Crain Hyundai makes sure you’re protected when you buy used.

Professional Support

Finally, like any vehicle purchase, you’ll eventually need to bring it in for routine maintenance. Crain Hyundai has a fantastic team of experts in our Service and Parts Departments. When your car needs maintenance or repair work, you can bring it to our shop and know you’re getting the best support available.

Our Service Department is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Winter weather has made its way to Arkansas, and while we don’t see snow every day, it’s still possible to encounter snow and ice. To ensure safety for yourself and other vehicles on the road, it’s essential to be aware of the challenges you can face with weather changes. At Chris Crain Hyundai, we’ve collected four big tips for driving in winter weather. The first step is to take your time.

Take it Slow

The key to driving in ice and snow is to take it slow. Even with all-wheel drive, you should still proceed with caution. When temperatures reach below freezing, the melted snow turns into ice, and even a little patch of ice can be hard to detect on the road. One of the best driving tips we can give this winter season is to take it slow.

Winter Tires

When you pair winter tires with an all-wheel drive vehicle, it goes a long way. Winter tires promote a higher level of traction in snowy and icy weather. Check your tires’ tread to ensure they have an excellent depth to grasp the road and drive in such conditions. Also, keep an eye on the air in your tires. As the weather changes, colder weather usually means the air in your tires will decrease, so it’s important to recalibrate your tires through your vehicle’s system, and if it still shows it low on air, take it to your nearest gas station to fill up with air or our dealership, and we’ll be happy to help.

Winter Maintenance

Along with winter tires comes keeping your vehicle’s maintenance up to date. This includes checking vehicle fluid levels like engine oil, coolant, and washer fluid. While on the road, you also want to get your battery checked beforehand. There’s nothing worse than getting stuck on the road because your battery won’t start or your tires don’t have a good tread depth on them.

Plan Ahead

Check out the weather and road map before you hit the streets. Before you travel anywhere, you should ensure the road conditions are clear enough to drive on. You can plan and see if there are any winter advisories ahead of time. A great tool to see if a road has been impacted with ice is iDrive Arkansas. iDrive Arkansas can show you numerous ways to use this application. It will show winter weather conditions, lane closures, and travel information.

Take our tips on how to drive in this winter weather, and you’ll be sure to stay safe. At Chris Crain Hyundai, we want only the best for you and your family. Stay aware this winter by keeping up with your vehicle maintenance and planning and taking it slow.

Keeping up with your vehicle’s maintenance can be challenging, but we have the friendliest service at Chris Crain Hyundai in Conway, AR. Rest assured, you can lower your stress and expect your satisfaction to rise. Check us out this week!

Oil Change

It’s essential to get your oil changed because your engine’s oil is one of the most critical fluids in your vehicle. An oil change is mandatory every three months or 3,000 miles, and if you’re driving for lengthy travel, getting an oil change regularly or sometimes sooner is critical, depending on the oil level.

Tire Rotation

While changing your oil, ask if they can also rotate your tires. Repositioning tires will help even the tread on tires and extend their span of active use. If your tires need to be in better shape, our technicians will recommend the best tires from our tire center. Five reasons why you should buy tires from our Hyundai tire center?
-The right tires for your Hyundai vehicle
-Competitive tire prices

Blue 2023 Kona Electric SUV driving in front of wind mills

Electric cars have become increasingly popular in recent years but they have some considerations beyond those of gas-powered cars. Knowing what you need out of a vehicle, how you plan to use it and what various electric vehicles (EVs) can offer will make sure that you get the perfect car. So here’s a few things to keep in mind.

Range

The biggest consideration is range. For the longest time, the overall range capability of electric vehicles was the biggest obstacle to mass adoption. These days, however, getting over 300 miles of range is fairly standard among larger EVs with larger battery packs. Which makes them quite a bit more viable as a primary family car. But you may not need that much range. While it’s certainly nice to have it available, if you live in the city or fairly close to work, you may not drive that far on a day-to-day basis and a car with a shorter range will more than suffice.

Charging Potential and Infrastructure

A factor that goes hand-in-hand with range is the charging speed and charging infrastructure for your car. Improvements in this area are coming super fast and some EVs can charge from 20% to 80% in a matter of minutes. It’s still not as fast as filling up a gas tank, but long gone are the days of driving an EV meaning that a 300 mile drive becomes an overnight trip. This does mean that longer trips may require some planning, making sure that fast charging stations that match your car are present along your route.

Cost

It’s no secret that EVs can often have a higher up-front cost than similarly equipped gas-powered vehicles. But this is often offset by government incentive programs and is certainly made up in a lower operating cost. Consider, you’ll never have to buy gas or pay for an oil change or coolant flush ever again. The regular maintenance costs of an EV are significantly lower than those of an internal combustion engine. Even though the electricity to charge them isn’t free, the overall cost savings is remarkable. In addition, EVs retain their value exceptionally well and so they tend to resell at a higher price point.

Electric vehicles come with a couple of considerations that their gas-powered counterparts don’t have. But this is more a small change than a total overhaul of how we think about cars. For example, considering electric range as opposed to miles-per-gallon. If you have any questions about purchasing an electric vehicle, we’d be happy to help you at Chris Crain Hyundai!

Winter weather provides its own demands and while it’s not something we commonly see in central Arkansas, it does happen frequently enough that we should know our way around the pitfalls. And we all know that even though its March, thats no guarantee we won’t still see some winter weather this year. Not only does being aware of the challenges keep us safe, but it provides a safer environment for other motorists.

So let’s look at 5 tips for driving in winter weather because while it might be the end of February, we all know how unpredictable it can get here in central Arkansas.

      1. Slow Down. We know, we know this isn’t quite the fun you wanted to hear but it’s no secret that ice and snow are slippery! And we’re in a perfect climate where temperatures can rapidly cycle from below freezing to above freezing and back again. This makes for particularly sneaky little patches of ice where you might not suspect them.
It also helps low visibility conditions when it’s actively snowing or sleeting.
      2. Check your roof! So you’ve come out to your car after it’s snowed or iced. You scrape off your windshield, hop in and drive off to work. All the while, snow and ice are flying off your roof and trunk lid all over the windshields of the cars behind you. That can be dangerous. Take an extra minute or two and scrape off your roof and trunk lid. Don’t use your ice scraper for this, though. The combination of harsh edges and cold temps can damage your paint. Instead, use something like a file folder, old pizza box or something similar.
      3. Be extra careful on bridges. We’re all familiar with the road signs that say “bridge may ice in cold weather” but this can be especially true when temperatures are right on the edge of freezing. Warmer ground temps can keep most pavement clear of ice but freezing air blowing around underneath bridges could cause them to freeze well before ice forms anywhere else. It also means they’ll defrost later than other parts of the highway.
      4. Give your car some time to warm up. Freezing temps can cause havoc with your belts and fluids. Cranking up the engine and immediately hitting the highway isn’t a great idea. Give yourself some extra time in the morning to start your car and let it idle for a few minutes before you go tearing off down the road.
      5. Check your tires for two things. The first, and hopefully most obvious, is proper tread depth. Driving through layers of snow, sleet and ice mush is much less dangerous if you have proper tread depth on your tires. But much less obvious is the air pressure. Colder temps mean denser air, which means less air pressure in your tires. But then that air in your tires heats up as you drive, causing rapid fluctuations in air pressure which can cause damage to your tires over time. So once the temps drop, check your air pressure and you might find you need to hit the air pumps.

By keeping a few basics in mind, we can make winter weather driving much safer for ourselves and others!
