Top 3 Summer Road Trip Destinations in 2022

With springtime in Arkansas quickly coming to an end, it is getting that time of year where families and friends plan their summer vacation getaways. If international travel is outside of your means, that doesn’t mean you can’t have an amazing vacation. In fact, there are so many different places within the U.S. where you can roadtrip to and still have an incredible time. At Crain Hyundai in Conway, we love a great road trip which is why we put together this list of the top 3 summer road trip destinations in the U.S. in 2022. Keep reading to learn about some of our favorite places. 

California Route 1 (Pacific Coast Highway)

One of California’s most popular experiences is the drive up Highway 1, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway. Made up of more than 650 miles of roadway, this trip offers iconic views and some of the most well-known and photographed roadways in the U.S. No matter where you start, on the way you’re likely to see historic lighthouses, piers, picturesque cliff sides, hundreds of acres of vineyards, centuries-old forests and much more. We suggest driving north to south if you are alone- that way the ocean will be on your right side making it easier to pull off the road for photos. 

Route 66

Route 66 is one of the first things that comes to mind when someone says the words “road trip.” It has been featured in countless movies, shows, songs, novels, etc.- to the point where even the youngest of american kids have heard of it. Passing through eight different states, Route 66 is guaranteed to introduce you to all types of American culture. One of our favorite places to visit along the way is the Cadillac Ranch in Texas (you’ve probably seen it on instagram, it is also pictured above.) This art installation which was created in 1974 features brightly colored cadillacs that are partially buried in the dirt and laid out in a row. We love that everyone who visits can leave their mark on the Cadillacs with spray paint. 

The Big Five in Utah

Another one of our favorite places to roadtrip is the big five in Utah. If you are big into national parks and the outdoors, this is the ideal road trip for you! The region is split up into five national parks, hence the name. They include: Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Arches, Zion National Park, and Capitol Reef National Parks. Each of these parks has their own distinct features and landscapes to offer. If you are up for a good camping trip- you won’t regret a night camping in one of the parks. Since there is little light pollution, you’ll get to see the sky come to life each night with stars shining much brighter than they do anywhere else.
