In 2015, Hyundai teased consumers with a pickup truck concept, named the Hyundai Santa Cruz. They promised production in the coming years, but things have gone quiet in the six years since that announcement. Well, things have changed in 2021. Hyundai recently announced they would begin production on the Santa Cruz pickup truck this year in its Alabama factory. So what do we know so far? What will the Santa Cruz pickup truck be like? Chris Crain Hyundai has the answers you’ve been looking for.

What We Know So Far about the 2021 Hyundai Santa Cruz

There is much speculation about the 2021 Santa Cruz, but there are a few things we know for certain. First, the 2021 Santa Cruz will be Hyundai’s first pickup truck. Hyundai offers affordable, high-quality options in the car, crossover and SUV markets, but the Korean manufacturer has never-before produced a pickup. Despite this, we can assume that the truck has been in development for at least the last six years, since the 2015 announcement. This means that the 2021 Santa Cruz is not being rushed into production. Rather, the Santa Cruz will be a result of a long perfecting process.

We’re still not sure about the release date of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Cruz, but Hyundai did announce that the truck would go into production sometime this year. Perhaps it will become available to consumers at that time. It’s also possible that the new Hyundai pickup truck won’t be available at dealerships until early next year. What Will the 2021 Santa Cruz Be Like?

While Hyundai has not released any information about the characteristics of its truck, there are a few things which we can presume based upon the location of its production. The Alabama factory in which the Santa Cruz will be produced is the same factory which produces the Hyundai Santa Fe SUV.. Given trends across the auto industry, this means the truck will be built similarly to Hyundai’s signature crossover SUV. It will likely have a compact, sleek frame with a smaller-sized bed. However, this is just speculation and we do not know for sure how the truck will appear.

Hyundai has a tradition of offering vehicles which are similar in quality and power to competitors for a lower price. We can assume this will be true for the 2021 Santa Cruz pickup as well. The truck will likely offer a powertrain similar to that of mid-size pickup competitors, albeit at a better value and lower price.

Even though we don’t have a ton of information about the 2021 Santa Cruz pickup, we’re more than excited about the upcoming Hyundai truck!
