2021 Hyundai Elantra near NLR

The jury has spoken. The 2021 Hyundai Elantra has been named the North American Car of the Year, and it’s not hard to see why. The compact car features a sleek exterior redesign, high-level sporty performance and superb fuel economy. For that reason, among others, a group of fifty of the continent’s top automotive journalists voted to select the 2021 Elantra as the best new car on the market.

The 2021 Elantra is one of three sedan options from Hyundai this year, accompanying the subcompact Accent and the midsize Sonata. Within the Elantra line, there are four models and a soon-to-be-released hybrid option. The Elantra offers the SE, SEL, the turbo-charged N-Line and the luxurious Limited trim.

“It is refreshing to see an automaker so committed to the sedan segment that at launch they offer such a wide variety of models as is in the Hyundai Elantra family,” said Senior Executive Producer/Host at Maryland Public Television/MotorWeek and North American Car of the Year juror John Davis. “Hyundai did not do the drip-drip of the model variants over a longer term as is typical for the class.”

Style
The most striking feature of the 2021 Elantra is its redesigned exterior. The sedan displays an attractive pattern of accent lines on its sides and a fashionable grille to add to its modern appearance. The interior of the 2021 Elantra has seen an upgrade as well, offering technological features such as Apple CarPlay on a class-leading 10.25-inch touchscreen and an available wireless phone charging pad. The Elantra is also loaded with driver assistance features such as blind spot detection and automatic emergency braking on all models, as well as lane keep assist and stop-and-go cruise control on SEL models and above.

Under the Hood
The magic of the 2021 Elantra doesn’t end with its stylistic and technological features but continues as you move under the hood. The Elantra’s tidy 2.0L 4-cylinder engine gets up to 43 miles per gallon on the highway and up to 33 miles per gallon in the city. If you desire a little more power and sportiness, the N-Line trim upgrades the engine to a 1.6L turbocharged option which produces 201 horsepower and garnishes the exterior with extra sporty trims.
